Make Your Own Screen Saver - by Candlelight Software
Version 1.0 May, 1994
******************************************************************
Make Your Own Screen Saver allows you to choose up to 15 of your favorite
bitmaps for alternate display. You can choose any interval from
10 seconds to 1 minute between displays. Make Your Own Screen Saver
also provides password capability if you need to secure your PC.
SHARWARE:
This program is shareware. You may try it out and distribute it freely.
If you continue to use the program, please register with Candlelight.
The modest registration fee permits the continued development
of useful and inexpensive software.
Setup:
Unzip MYOWNSS.ZIP into a temporary directory or directly into your
windows directory. The zip file contains this readme.txt file and
MYWOWNSS.SCR. Windows screen saver applications have the file extension
.scr. Once MYOWNSS.SCR is in your windows directory, bring up Control
Panel and select Desktop. In the Screen Saver group box you will see
a drop down listbox. Open the list and select Make Your Own SS. Next
press Setup...The Make Your Own Screen Saver configuration dialog will
appear. To add a bitmap, type its name, for example - winlogo.bmp
in the Bitmap name editbox. Press Add Bitmap and MYOWNSS will search
for the file. MYOWNSS looks in your windows directory and your path
to locate bitmaps you have chosen to display. If it finds it, it
will be added to your list. You may add up to 15 bitmaps. If
the bitmap name you type in is not in your path or windows directory
you will receive a message telling you the program can't find the
bitmap file. Check your spelling and the location of the bitmap and
try again.
If you later delete or move a bitmap out of your path or windows directory,
MYOWNSS will not be able to find it when it is displaying and a
small error message will appear on your screen saying that the program
can't find a bitmap. If this happens, simply go into Control Panel
- Desktop and press Setup...Removing the offending bitmap name
from your list will correct the problem.
When the program runs, you will first see a Candlelight Software
(slightly promotional!) screen until the first bitmap is displayed. From
that point forward, the bitmaps will simply display on the screen
sequentially - at the time interval you specify (10 to 60 seconds).
If you type a number less than 10 or greater than 60, the program will
reset to the minimum or maximum value.
Suggestions for use:
Many beautiful bitmaps are now available on bulletin boards. If you have
some that you are especially fond of, you can turn them into a 'slide show'
like screen saver with this program.
My 10 year old son has created some unique bitmaps in Paintbrush. Local art
such as this also makes a great screen saver.
Technical Info:
This program reads bitmap files (.bmp extension) in Windows 3.0 or greater
format. There may be some bitmaps with older file formats that it cannot
read. It can read 16 and 256 color bitmaps, but if you are using a
16 color video driver and load a 256 color bitmap, the colors may
look odd without a 256 driver. Check your windows and video board
documentation to see if you have a 256 color driver available. If you are
unsure of how to change drivers, get some help from someone with
experience. Loading the incorrect driver could hang your system, so be
careful.
This program does not read compressed file formats such as
GIF or JPG files.
Disclaimer:
Make Your Own Screen Saver is well tested, but does not come with any
guarantees. As with other screen savers, some programs,
especially TSRs or other background programs may disrupt the
operation of MYOWNSS and result in unpredicatable behavior.
Thank you for your interest in Make Your Own Screen Saver.
